Meet The Pledgers — Lucinda

Welcome to the Meet The Pledgers series in which we’ll be talking to members of our team to find out what their job involves and get a little glimpse of their day to day lives at work. We hope it will also give you a flavour of our culture.
Today we will be talking to Lucinda Maxwell, who is our Founders’ Associate. Recently Lucinda has been working on preparing for Pledge’s appearance at COP27.
Why did you apply to work at Pledge?
After working in consulting for a couple of years, I decided that I wanted to gain some experience working in an early stage company. Whilst at McKinsey, I had the opportunity to work with some of the world’s most renowned organisations. But I also wanted to learn about building a company from the early foundations - something that I potentially was interested in doing in the future. So I wanted a role where I could work closely with founders that had built companies before.
I also knew that people were a priority for me. In my previous role, I was surrounded by exceptional people, whom I learned an extraordinary amount from. I knew I needed to continue learning at the same pace in my next role. Not only does Pledge have an exceptional founding team that have together built and grown some of the UK's leading technology teams, we are also backed by some incredible investors, so it felt like exactly the right place for me.
What does an average day look like in your job?
No two days are the same - this is what I love about the role. In the morning, I may try to understand how a new piece of EU sustainability legislation would impact our customers. Then I might work with the marketing team to help organise the PR plan for an event we’re attending, and in the afternoon I might take some time to think about how we could use partnerships to further scale our product.
What are your hopes for COP27?
In terms of wider sustainability policy, I hope countries feel brave enough to bring about radical change, using the conference to demonstrate that climate change sits above the economic or political challenges going on in the world. On a more personal level, I look forward to just being at the centre of the action, and meeting like-minded people all working towards the same overarching goal.
What are you most excited about when it comes to Pledge’s development?
The scale of the opportunity; the problem we’re solving at Pledge is huge. In comparison to the long history of the world, this is a new topic on which businesses are only just starting to focus. We have an opportunity to make a real impact, and it’s up to us to convince businesses that the environment is worth the investment. It would be incredible to be able to look back in five years and see how many companies we’ve supported on their sustainability journey.
What is Pledge Life about for you?
It’s about spending your time doing something that will have a positive impact on the world. Our purpose at Pledge is very quantifiable. The more companies we help, the more carbon gets sucked out of the air.
What would you say to someone who might be looking to join your team?
Just go for it. If you’re looking to spend your time solving tangible problems, want to be immersed in the inner workings of an early-stage start-up and want to be surrounded by a team of amazing people, then Pledge really is for you. Join us!
