Skrap Joins Forces with Pledge to bring Climate Transparency to the Construction Supply Chain

London, 22 September 2022 - Skrap, the leading on-demand solution for waste management and equipment hire services in construction, has partnered with Pledge, the carbon measurement and removal API-oriented platform, to measure the carbon footprint generated by its supply chain and to use this data to reduce its climate impact.
Waste management has an important role to play in the global reduction of GHG emissions. It is estimated that implementing good practice solutions for the handling of construction-generated and municipal waste would reduce GHG emissions by between 2.1 and 2.8 billion tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030 (around 5% of global GHG emissions). There are already many companies in the sector looking to take climate action. But measuring your carbon footprint can be manual and time-consuming. And finding trusted offsetting projects which effectively remove or sequester carbon from the atmosphere can be fraught with difficulty.
By partnering with Pledge, Skrap will give its clients visibility over the footprint of their own and their customers’ shipments. It will also be able to support them on their emissions reduction journey and offer them a seamless way to address their residual emissions through high quality offsets.
“Construction firms are beginning to declare their net zero targets and work towards reducing carbon emissions across their operations. Skrap will be there alongside them to lead the charge in helping the construction sector achieve their net zero goals.” says Hussain Hilli, Co-founder of Skrap.
Pledge is an embedded climate infrastructure platform that allows businesses across a range of sectors to integrate climate solutions – such as footprint measurement, reduction and offsetting – into their customer experience quickly and easily, In order for their customers to get an instant view of emissions and take action.
Pledge’s accredited platform leverages and consolidates tens of thousands of data points onto a single viewport, enabling organisations to calculate their footprint, identify carbon hotspots, make smarter data-driven decisions, and start building strategies to reduce and offset emissions. Pledge's platform is one of only a handful in the world to be accredited to be in conformance with the GLEC framework, as verified by the The Smart Freight Centre. The framework is aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the ICAO and CleanCargo methodologies as well as the UN-led Global Green Freight Action Plan amongst others.
Through its carbon offsetting marketplace, customers have access to verified carbon projects and removal technologies. Partner selection is based on the Oxford Principles for Net Zero Aligned Carbon Offsetting with projects vetted by independent experts and registries. Its API-oriented approach also means it is easy to integrate, ensuring rapid time to value as well as optimal user experience.
Skrap has built a digital platform designed to offer contractors an on-demand solution for construction hire and waste management services via a mobile app and online portal. It is underwhelming how far behind the sector is in understanding where to start and where they need to be. By using Skrap’s detailed reporting and offsetting feature, the construction sector can now know emissions across each journey and the carbon footprint on the construction waste generated from each site - in order to effectively reduce and offset against their total emissions.
Hussain Hilli further comments that “Skrap is designed as the convenience tool for contractors, one that provides full transparency over costs and day to day analytics of procurement on site. By providing a layer of reporting on carbon emissions we are giving contractors the opportunity to immediately meet their scope 3 targets, but also to bring in their subcontractors as users of the platform to report on their own activity when operating on main contractor sites.”
“We started Pledge with the belief that technology can be an incredible lever in the fight against climate change,” said David de Picciotto, Pledge Co-founder and CEO. “But for companies to start their journey to sustainability, they must first have a good understanding of their carbon footprint. We’re excited to help Skrap to get thorough footprint visibility within the construction supply chain and help bring analytics and offsetting capabilities to accelerate the decarbonisation journey.
