Meet The Pledgers — Sarah

Welcome to the Meet The Pledgers series in which we’ll be talking to members of our team to find out what their job involves and get a little glimpse of their day to day lives at work. We hope it will also give you a flavour of our culture.

Today we’ll be talking to Sarah Magee, who is our People Partner. Sarah joined us four months ago and has been focusing on improving employees’ experience by building the people function, revamping Pledge values, and so on.

Why did you apply to work at Pledge?

In all honesty, seeing a company hire for a People Partner so early was a huge draw for me. Quite often this is one of the last roles hired, or worse, hired when something has gone terribly wrong. 

I was also actively seeking out a role that I felt would put my skills to a positive social use, which is what has excited me about Pledge’s mission statement from the start.

What does an average day look like in your job?

My days are very varied, which is typical of a startup environment. One day I’m onboarding a new joiner, another one I’m liaising with a team manager to work on performance planning. What I like most about Pledge is the ability to shape my own day!

What have you learnt so far about the challenges that businesses face when it comes to climate action?

I think there can be somewhat of a wall of information when it comes to climate action. It’s often difficult to break this down and identify the specific goals to prioritise and that will lead to meaningful results. What excites me about Pledge is our product, which enables users to self-serve and get started with emissions measurements in minutes. I love our new brand and website too. It demystifies how a company can take climate action, no matter the size.

What developments at Pledge are you most excited about in the coming months?

I’m incredibly excited about rolling out our new values and keen to see these core concepts become part of the Pledge foundation. On top of that, I know that the engineering and product teams have got a lot of projects in the pipeline, so that’s exciting too. 

What is Pledge Life about for you?

It’s knowing that every time I go to work, I’ll be surrounded by people who are truly passionate about what they do. And it’s thrilling to see how my work impacts a business that’s committed to addressing a social need.

What would you say to someone who might be looking to join your team?

If you are someone who loves to see the impact of their work, Pledge is certainly for you. I may sound biased but we have an incredible team of driven people here and you can learn a lot at Pledge – all whilst making your mark!
